Visa Appoints Anne Kinuthia-Otieno as Vice President and Head of East Africa

Global digital payments leader Visa has appointed Anne Kinuthia-Otieno as its new Vice President and Head of East Africa, effective August 4, 2026. She will be based in Nairobi and oversee the company’s strategy, business growth, and partnerships across the East African region.

Kinuthia-Otieno joins Visa after nearly five years as Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, where she led the mobile money business through a period of significant expansion. Under her leadership, Airtel Money strengthened its market position by growing its customer base and expanding its agent network, making it one of Kenya’s fastest-growing digital financial services platforms.

Her appointment underscores Visa’s commitment to accelerating digital payments and financial inclusion across East Africa. In her new role, Kinuthia-Otieno is expected to work closely with financial institutions, fintech firms, merchants, and government stakeholders to drive the adoption of secure digital payment solutions and support the region’s evolving digital economy.

Before joining Airtel Money, Kinuthia-Otieno held senior leadership positions in Kenya’s banking sector, including roles at Absa Bank Kenya and Barclays Bank Kenya, building extensive experience in payments, retail banking, risk management, and financial services.
