Odunayo Eweniyi: Championing Tech, Finance, and Feminism in Africa

Posted: 4 Jul, 2025

In a continent bursting with talent and potential, few women stand as boldly and impactfully as Odunayo Eweniyi. This week, we celebrate her as Woman of the Week—a trailblazer who continues to shape Africa’s tech, finance, and feminist landscapes.

Odunayo Eweniyi is the co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of PiggyVest, Nigeria’s largest digital savings and investment platform, which has helped over 4.5 million users take control of their finances. Her journey into tech entrepreneurship began shortly after graduating with first-class honors in Computer Engineering from Covenant University in 2013.

Before PiggyVest, she co-founded PushCV, a recruitment platform aimed at connecting job seekers with employers. However, it was in 2016 that she made a significant breakthrough with PiggyVest, inspired by a simple social media post about traditional savings methods using wooden boxes.

Beyond fintech, Odunayo’s passion for gender equity led her to co-found Feminist Coalition, an organization advocating for women’s rights, safety, financial freedom, and equal representation in Nigeria. She also launched FirstCheck Africa, a venture fund dedicated to empowering female-led startups across Africa, aiming to bridge the gender gap in tech funding.

Her accomplishments have attracted widespread recognition. Odunayo has earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Future Awards Africa Prize in Technology (2018) and Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 in the Technology category (2019). She has also been featured in global lists such as Bloomberg 50 (2020), Time100 Next (2021), and Forbes Woman Africa Technology & Innovation Award (2022).

Her advocacy work during the #EndSARS movement in Nigeria, where she and the Feminist Coalition provided legal and medical support for protesters, cemented her status as a fearless voice for social justice. Her work continues to inspire young women to pursue leadership roles in technology and entrepreneurship.

Odunayo Eweniyi’s story is not just one of business success but also of bold activism and relentless dedication to the advancement of African women. Through her leadership, she’s opening doors for millions—proving that technology, finance, and feminism are powerful tools for change.
