Woman of the Week: Oke Maduewesi — A Story of Resilience, Vision, and Impact

Posted: 10 Dec, 2025

Oke Maduewesi stands as one of Nigeria’s most inspiring modern entrepreneurs — a woman whose life story blends courage, innovation, and purpose. As the Founder and CEO of the Zaron Group, she has reshaped the African beauty industry while using her platform to uplift women, widows, and underserved communities. Her journey is a testament to the power of reinvention and the strength found in transforming adversity into opportunity.

A Rising Corporate Star Turned Visionary Entrepreneur

Before venturing into the world of cosmetics, Oke Maduewesi built a successful career in banking. She worked at Zenith Bank Plc, where she rose to the position of branch manager through dedication and strategic leadership. Her educational roots include a degree in Economics from Edo State University (now Ambrose Alli University) and an MBA from the University of Leeds Business School in the UK — a program that would later spark the idea for her globally recognized brand.

Turning Tragedy into Purpose

Oke’s path was profoundly shaped by personal tragedy. In 2005, she lost her husband in the Sosoliso plane crash while she was pregnant and caring for a young child. Suddenly faced with single motherhood and enormous emotional upheaval, she found the courage to rebuild her life from the ground up.

Instead of allowing grief to define her, she chose to redefine her future. She left her banking career in 2009 to pursue her MBA in the UK, using the academic environment to develop what would become her masterstroke: Zaron.

Building Zaron — A Beauty Brand for African Women

In 2011, Oke launched Zaron Cosmetics with a single mission: to create high-quality beauty products tailored specifically for African skin tones and the continent’s unique climate. Her MBA business plan became a real company — and within a decade, Zaron grew into one of Africa’s fastest-rising beauty brands.

Today, the Zaron Group includes Zaron International, Zaron Cosmetics, and Skin by Zaron, with widespread outlets and distributors across Nigeria and beyond. The brand’s commitment to inclusivity, excellence, and representation has made it a household name and a trusted choice for millions of women.

A Leader with a Heart for Humanity

While Oke’s entrepreneurial accomplishments are remarkable, she is equally admired for her philanthropy. Fuelled by her own experiences as a widow and single mother, she established initiatives that support vulnerable women and communities across Nigeria.

Her signature humanitarian efforts include:

  • Zaron Widows’ Day — an annual outreach providing support, empowerment, and relief packages to widows.
  • Hunger Free Day and community food drives — supplying food, resources, and hope to underserved families.
  • Training and empowerment programs — creating income-generating opportunities, especially for women.

Through these initiatives, she demonstrates that success isn’t measured by profits alone, but by the lives touched and the communities uplifted.

A Role Model for the Modern African Woman

Oke Maduewesi is celebrated not only for her business acumen but for her resilience and unwavering commitment to lifting others. She represents a generation of African women who are redefining leadership, beauty, and entrepreneurship.

Her story underscores a powerful truth: from heartbreak can come reinvention — and from reinvention, a legacy.
