On Monday, Alexcia Cox achieved a groundbreaking milestone as she was officially sworn in as the State Attorney for Florida’s 15th Judicial Circuit. The historic ceremony, held with much admiration and anticipation, was presided over by Chief Judge Glenn Kelley, who administered her oath of office. Retired Judge Krista Marx also played a pivotal role, administering the oath to the 112 Assistant State Attorneys who will support Cox in her new role.
Cox’s victory in the recent election was hard-fought, securing her position by a narrow margin of less than 5,300 votes against her Republican opponent, Sam Stern. Reflecting on the significance of her new responsibilities, Cox acknowledged the weight of her role while expressing her readiness for the challenges ahead. “If you know my journey and all I have overcome, you’ll understand that I am not afraid of hard work or the challenges that come with a position of this magnitude,” she remarked.
As the new State Attorney, Cox emphasized her dedication to justice and community safety. She committed to working closely with prosecutors to ensure accountability for those who break the law while continuing to advocate for victims. “We will stand up for victims, collaborate with law enforcement, and engage with community stakeholders to keep our community safe,” she stated passionately during her address.
Alexcia Cox’s appointment marks a historic first for the office, as she becomes both the first woman and the first Black person to hold the position. Judge Krista Marx underscored the significance of the moment, saying, “I look forward to a day when such achievements are seen as ordinary, but today is extraordinary. We are here witnessing history.”
