Ladun Awobokun is a Nigerian entertainment executive whose career reflects the power of combining data, business strategy and a deep understanding of audiences to transform an industry.
With a background in accounting, information systems and business analysis, as well as an ACCA professional qualification, Awobokun began her career in financial market research and risk management before moving into entertainment. She also explored entrepreneurship, running a small lipstick business in Lagos before joining the film industry.
Her transition into entertainment became a defining chapter in her career. At FilmOne, she rose through leadership roles in theatrical distribution and general management, helping build the company’s distribution business and strengthening relationships with major international studios. Her work contributed to FilmOne’s position as a major force in Nigeria’s film distribution ecosystem.
One of her notable strengths has been her ability to bring data and audience insights into creative decision-making. Rather than seeing entertainment simply as storytelling, Awobokun has consistently focused on understanding who the audience is, what they want and how great stories can reach them.
In 2024, FilmOne appointed her Chief Content Officer, placing her in charge of the creative direction, operations and content strategy of FilmOne Entertainment and FilmOne Studios. The appointment recognised her contribution to the company’s growth and her understanding of both the commercial and creative sides of the industry.
By 2026, her influence had expanded across cinema, production and streaming. She serves as Chief Content Officer at FilmOne and Filmhouse Group and Head of Content Acquisition at KAVA, working across content production, theatrical distribution, audience development and streaming. She has more than 16 years of experience in the entertainment industry.
Beyond her professional achievements, Awobokun has also become a mentor and advocate for the development of Africa’s creative ecosystem. Her work reflects a commitment to opening doors, sharing opportunities and encouraging the use of data to solve problems within the film industry.
Her story is a reminder that success does not always follow a straight path. From accounting and banking to entrepreneurship and eventually becoming one of the influential women shaping Nigeria’s film and content industry, Ladun Awobokun has built a career at the intersection of business, technology, data and storytelling.
Today, her work represents a broader vision for African entertainment: not only telling African stories, but building the systems, businesses and platforms that allow those stories to travel across borders and compete on the global stage.
Ladun Awobokun’s success story is ultimately a story of reinvention, strategic leadership and using knowledge to create impact.
